Harmonica
During the weeks that we've been in the music class. We've got a chance to learn to play the harmonica. We learned the notes, and the different ways to play the harmonica. The end project of this unit is to record us playing a song that we chose. The song should be challenging enough but not too difficult. I chose to do the song Deck the Halls, a classic Christmas song.
Foley checkpoint 1
For this checkpoint, I have compiled a list of sound that I will be using in the final foley. I have created original sounds from items around me. These include rain, glass break, and lightning. Some of these sounds depict something else. While it is not the true sound of something occurring, it sounds eerily similar to what it is trying to depict. The sounds are created to go along with a foley. The foley that I've chosen is a section of the movie Up.
Foley checkpoint 2
Before doing this project, I had little knowledge about sound effects and audio editing. I only knew that movie sound effects are not made from anything similar to the sound it was supposed to make. Also, vegetables are popular tools for sound effects. I learned that a lot of audio editing goes into making the sound natural and realistic. It takes a long time to reverb, pitch correction and so on to get the final sound. I also learned how to use GarageBand. Before I've never used it before and now I am comfortable using it. I learned that sound effects are much harder than I anticipated. A small difference can totally alter the overall product. Every single detail of the sound has to be perfect. I learned that many sounds are very soft are enhanced in animation such as the ruffling of clothes or movement of the body. I improved the quality of my product using various techniques. I used a variety of things to make sound effects, which include clashing glass against each other and hitting many odd objects. I lowered the pitch of many audios to make it better fit the video. I even took my computer in the rain to record the rain and thunder. I would give myself a 92/100 because I worked extremely hard on this project and constantly made corrections to the video. I made improvements over improvements to precisely layer the sounds. However, I feel like the audio isn't perfect and could layer in more sounds to create the ambient.
